Spring Lecture Series: The Unique Courtship of the American Woodcock

When the sun sets in early spring, woodcock love is in the air. Wet meadows and fields are transformed into a "runway" for the beautiful aerial courtship displays of this intriguing bird. At this indoor presentation, learn about the natural history of the American Woodcock, including where and why they dance. We will also recommend a few possible places (or even upcoming programs you can sign up for) to search for this local spectacle.

This program includes an indoor presentation from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a 30-minute outdoor exploration to look for woodcocks on the trails nearby. We will cover less than 0.5 miles of distance. Dress for the weather of the evening. The trail surface -- which is typically wide and gravel-paved -- may be wet, muddy, icy or snowy depending on the weather. For more information: 413-637-0320 berkshires@massaudubon.org
