Slapstick Film Series: Sherlock Jr. and Cops
This October and November, the Clark hosts a series of silent slapstick comedy films that highlight quick wit, precarious situations, and hilarious mishaps.
The series continues with Sherlock Jr. (1924), in which an aspiring detective is framed for stealing his girlfriend's father's watch and must hunt down the true thief. Consistently listed among the 100 greatest films of all time, Sherlock Jr. delights viewers with its whimsical spirit and profoundly modernist inventions. The innovations are both narrative and visual, leading to a much-emulated dream sequence. (Run time: 45 minutes)
The showing is preceded by Buster Keaton’s short film, Cops (1922). (Run time: 18 minutes)
