Though it is also a love story, the underlying conflict of Vincenzo Bellini’s opera I Puritani is a battle over governance. During the English Civil War, Puritans supported the establishment of a parliament, and Royalists supported the dominance of the monarchy. To explore this tension before the opera starts, come view this special pop-up exhibition of works on paper highlighting artists’ representations of government in its many forms.
