Greatly missed Baroque music is programmed again this anniversary season in a concert saluting the genius of yet another short lived composer, the English master Henry Purcell (1659-1695), Purcell was revered by Handel for his choral and theatre writing and described by contemporary countrymen as "one of the most celebrated Masters of the Science of Musick in this Kingdom and scarce inferiour to any in Europe". Gregory Hayes, indomitable scholar and harpsichordist will direct a baroque instrumental ensemble, and the renowned Cantabile vocal group. We also welcome new young baritone David McFerrin a native of Leverett, MA now enjoying considerable success in Europe and the USA.
