Drawing Closer: What a Relief

Drawing Closer: What a Relief Manton Study Center

The Manton Study Center for Works on Paper welcomes artists of all experience and skill levels to find inspiration in thematic selections from the Clark’s collection of works on paper. This month’s Drawing Closer is the first of two that are rooted in printmaking techniques. Relief printmaking uses the same principle as a rubber stamp: the printmaker carves away an image on the block, applies ink to the high points, and then transfers the image to another surface. Get inspired by the Clark’s collection of relief prints: Japanese woodblock prints, intricate woodcuts by Dürer, German Expressionist prints, and more. Enjoy an open session to participate in the tradition of copying earlier artworks or choose to practice fundamentals and explore ideas.

Basic materials are provided. Artists bringing their own supplies should note that only graphite pencils are allowed in the Study Center.

Registration opens one month prior to event date.

Free. Advance registration required.
