Each month, a scholar and foremost expert from Brazil presents a lecture on Brazil’s artistic heritage and contemporary culture. These talks introduce viewers to the rich, varied, and historically complex art environments of Brazil, spanning architecture, museums, galleries, collectives, alternative circuits, and artistic traditions originating within and expanding beyond the country’s borders. The series offers viewers the chance to learn directly from the academics and museum professionals who are researching, writing, teaching, conserving, and exhibiting these histories today. Topics range from modern architecture and Indigenous art and collections to Afro-Brazilian and Japanese art traditions in Brazil, as well as many more exciting subjects.

“This significant international collaboration allows an opportunity to highlight the important work of our colleagues in Brazil and the extraordinary collections held in Brazilian institutions,” said Starr Director of RAP Caroline Fowler. “This lecture series also reimagines lecture programming for the future, so that it may be accessible on a digital platform to a wide and diverse audience who otherwise might not be able to attend the lectures if they were held either in Williamstown or São Paulo.”

Upcoming lectures:

April 22, 2021:Art Galleries in São Paulo and São Paulo Art Fair with Felipe Chaimovich (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado)

May 27, 2021:Modern Architecture and Landscape Design in Brazil with Vera Beatriz Siqueira (State University of Rio de Janeiro)
