Thursday, July 8, 15, 22 , 2021   7:00 PM -  8:00 PM

The 2021 summer lecture series celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Memorial Libraries by Historic Deerfield and the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association. The depth and breadth of the joint Library’s remarkable holdings attract scholars and researchers from the region and around the world. Come and learn what three scholars found at the Memorial Libraries as they explore daily life in the colonial period, colonial ecology in an Atlantic economy, and the material culture of early American education.

July 8: “Re-examining In Small Things Forgotten: Deerfield in the Early Modern World,” Presented by J. Ritchie Garrison, Program Director, Winterthur Program in American Material Culture

July 15: “Global Commerce and the Local Environment of the 18th-Century Connecticut Valley,” Presented Strother Roberts, Bowdoin College

July 22: “Painted Blackboards in America: A History of Education and Paint,” Presented by Judith Jacob, Senior Conservator, National Park Service, Northeast Regional Office

The lecture series is free, however registration is required.

The series will be presented via Zoom webinar. Registration information coming soon.
