Take a closer look at the Clark’s collection during Looking and Lunching, a half hour of discussion focusing on one work from the collection followed by continued discussion over lunch with the presenter and fellow art lovers in the Carswell Room. This month, join Anne Leonard, Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, for an in-depth discussion of the Clark’s Mosque Lamp by Philippe-Joseph Brocard. Closely modeled on an Egyptian original, this stunning example of enameled and gilded glass demonstrates the fascination that Islamic art and architecture held for nineteenth-century European designers. Normally on view in the permanent collection galleries, Brocard’s Mosque Lamp is presented now in the context of the special exhibition Arabesque.
Free with gallery admission. Plan to arrive early to pre-order and purchase your meal, or bring your own lunch. Limited seating available. Meet at the admissions desk in the Clark Center.
